America’s Test Kitchen put eight top-selling solid white tunas through two blind tastings — plain, and in tuna salad — with panels of 21 test kitchen staffers. American Tuna Pole Caught Wild Albacore came out on top.
Tasters called it “nice, light and fresh,” “delicious” and “seasoned well,” with “lots of flavor, but not too fishy” and “wonderful moist texture without wateriness.” One taster raved: “Salty taste and creamy texture with tons of pleasing seafood flavor without funk—my favorite.”
Two details set it apart from the rest of the field: it is cooked only once, directly in the can, and the ingredient list is just albacore tuna and sea salt.
